The University of Cordoba in Spain – LTT Activity

“Sustainable Agriculture and Life & Living Soil” is called “LIVING SOILS“, which is being carried out under the coordination of Konya Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry within the scope of Erasmus+ Vocational Education Strategic Partnership projects supported by the Turkish National Agency, the Learning, Teaching, Education Activity of the project was held between 24-30 October 2022, hosted by the project partner the University of Cordoba in Spain. Education activity; A total of 21 people participated, 11 people from Turkey, 3 people from Italy, 2 people from Belgium, 2 people from Germany, and 3 people from Spain.

On the first day of the training, presentations on “Biological and Biotechnical Control”, “Applications to Increase Organic Matter in Soils”, “Creating a Digital Identity Profile for Farmers” were made on the campus of Cordoba University. In addition, a colleague of the where Cordoba University conducts joint studies on Conservative Agriculture, a presentation about “Conservative Agricultural Studies in Pennsylvania” was made by Prof. Dr. Sjoerd W. Duiker University (Penn State Extension – Pennsylvania State University).

Practical trainings on sustainable agricultural practices were held at the RABANELES Campus of the University of Cordoba. Within the farm, which is established on an area of 185 hectares, project participants can benefit from sustainable and protective agriculture; A practical training was provided by giving information about direct sowing, soil cover crop applications in perennial plants, precision farming techniques, sensor-included weed spraying technology, pivot irrigation and water saving with precision agriculture technology, automatic steering system, rotation systems, applications to increase soil organic matter.

Additionally, training activities were held at the Cordoba center (IFAPA) of the Spanish Agriculture and Fisheries Research and Training Institute, which is affiliated to the Andalusian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development. In the Institute, which is the world’s largest Olive Varieties Gene Bank, sustainable agricultural activities in perennial plants, olive improvement studies were learned, besides applied training in the climate change greenhouse, olive oil tasting test was also carried out.

As a Sustainable Farm model, training activities were also carried out in the Organic Viticulture business. The process of processing the grape products (molasses, wine, grape paste, etc.) produced on the farm at the factory was also learned at the Bodegas Robles facility.

With the project, it is aimed to create a cooperation network between countries that have successful studies on sustainable agriculture, to ensure the exchange and dissemination of good practices by sharing new ideas and methods, to develop the institutional capacities of all partners by operating at a transnational level, to contribute to the professional development of technical personnel and farmers in the sector.
